Hello everyone,
First of all, I want to thank you all for backing this (weirdly botched) campaign for raising funds for developing Gitchain. Back in the day, that botching was a death blow to the project and I want to apologize that we all had to go through this. I still, to this day, don't know what exactly happened and where did that mysterious pledge come from...
As of few months ago, I've been working on SIT (https://sit.fyi) project, which decentralizes issues and merge requests and I am still holding the idea of decentralized development collaboration very dear to my heart.
With the recent news of Microsoft acquiring GitHub, a lot more people woke up to this understanding that our entire development community is up for sale to a new steward. Is that bad? Perhaps not -- I don't personally think that Microsoft will purposefully try to kill or otherwise harm GitHub. But it is definitely a wake-up call showing that we don't own our own ecosystem.
Should we do anything about it? Who knows. But I am doing something because I think what we have is... less than perfect.
I see SIT as a component in the future decentralized ecosystem and I have a bunch of thoughts and ideas on how other components might align. There are definitely people who would love to see a decentralized GitHub to happen.
I'd like to ask you: what do you think about this idea of "decentralized GitHub" (and beyond)?
